Issue 9 - The predictor that sets million-dollar sellers apart

You know the type. They're the sellers with a seemingly permanent spot in the President's Club. But what do they have that the average sellers don't? In the article Seven Scientific Predictors That Set Million-Dollar Sales Performers Apart, Shiran Danoch, Ph.D tells all.

Four decades of research distilled into one meta-analysis and the code is cracked

According to the research presented in Danoch's article, there are seven predictors that separate the good from the great in the sales industry. But we've distilled even further, highlighting what we'd argue makes the top 3.

1. Adaptive selling: The chameleon

At the top of Danoch's list is the adaptive seller. Million-dollar salespeople have mastered the art of reading the client's cues and tailoring their sales approach to fit. They do this in real-time on calls or through email. The shift between selling styles is seamless, and if their current approach isn't cutting it, they quickly pivot.

2. Core salesmanship: The toolkit

Foundational salesperson skills remain key to success in the industry. Yes, modern sales tactics have evolved, but the ability to objection-handle, give top-notch presentations, and harness tight closing techniques put the best performers in another league. Having the core techniques mastered also means advanced strategies are digested and executed more effectively.

3. Interpersonal skills: The relationship builder

Prospects and clients can see through inauthenticity faster than salespeople think. Refined interpersonal skills, especially when multiple stakeholders are concerned, are integral for sales success. The best performers are highly emotionally intelligent and use active listening to manage relationships across the most complex buying committees. Understanding individual needs and how your product delivers is crucial for moving your deals down the pipe.
